IGNOU launches new course in International Hospitality Administration at Ranchi

IGNOUS has launched a three year degree programme/course in international hospitality administration in collaboration with the US-based American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute. IGNOU has offered this course in Ranchi with a city based institution ‘Institute of Science and Management’ (ISM); the course will start in the month of August this year.

According to the officials this course would launched across 45 centers in India simultaneously. There will be 80 seats in this course. The programme will start from August 11 at ISM, the only IGNOU centre among hundreds in Bihar, Orissa and Chhattisgarh to be selected for this. Indira Gandhi National Open University IGNOU to launch a new master course in gender and development studies. Method of teaching for this master course would be direct classroom teaching. Teacher’s day ‘5th September’ 1986 was golden day to the people of Madhya Pradesh, seeking for distance education; Because IGNOU has opened its 1st regional center in India at Bhopal on the day. India’s most popular & biggest distance education provider ‘Indira Gandhi National Open University’ follows double layer evaluation system as under:-

Practical Evaluation: It is a continue process of evaluation through tutor marked assignments, project works, practical assignment, in which students submit their assigned work with in the given time period at their respective study center or as mentioned in the progrmme guide; subject counselor/teacher provides help through counseling to the registered students in their respective subjects for better understanding.

Indira Gandhi National Open University is going to launch a flexible programme in Engineering for those who have loosed but willing to take education & got the qualification in the technical education.

A six-year Vertically Integrated Engineering Programme (B.Tech) for the students who have completed Xth standard, +2, ITI besides polytechnic diploma holder could take benefit of regular education. Criteria for taking admission would be different on the basis of the applicants basic qualification.

Kapil Sibal minister for HRD is very much keen into the up gradation of the education system in India. He is looking forward as per the plan to prohibit, prevent & punish educational malpractices. In continuation of the same a Bill has been sent to law ministry, by this government has to deal with institution those do not meet promises made in their prospectus, like fee, quality for infrastructure & teachers.

In addition to that there would be accreditation as mandate for higher education institutions, in the said proposal there is very tough parameters are made. About the foreign investment in education, HRD ministry thinking ahead by establishing law. The most awaited plan for subsidy on educational loans may be take place in coming budget.

IGNOU would support Mauritius for establishing an Open University

Shashi Tharoor External Affairs minister of India feels happy to help Mauritius for establishment of an Open University. In a meeting of the 18-member group in Yemeni capital of Sanaa, Tharoor invited participation from member nations in programmes like the annual India International Trade Fair, the business-to-business meeting platform for food and beverage industry.

Feeling glad he said, "I am glad to announce allocation of 34 scholarships from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations for postgraduate studies in India. Mr. Tharoor said, “It is matter of pleasure for Indira Gandhi Open University to provide support to establish an Open University” in Mauritius.

IGNOU started BPO course

New generation students are opting Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) courses in search of an assured career. Although recession has effected BPO industry but students are still enrolling in BPO courses as a bright career. IGNOU the most popular university in India in terms of open education/distance education started six-month online course for students.

Students from commerce & accountancy are mostly looking forward in the BPO courses; many students of graduation level are enrolling them in the course together.

HRD minister plans independent panel to rate schools

HRD Minister Mr. Kapil Sibal thinking for the assessment pattern for the class 10 instead of examination, for class12 it is tough because of at this level student will be going into higher/graduate colleges. He said proposal would be send to state board for their opinion.

Final decision will take place after taking state boards into confidence. Minister for HRD said, we will implement the Yash Pal Committee report within 100 days.

IGNOU offers foundation course in Bhojpuri

Bhojpuri the language used in eastern Uttar Pradesh & Bihar state, Indira Gandhi National Open University will launch a foundation course in Bhojpuri. Later on this course will be converted into certificate course.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University was established by an Act of Parliament in 1985. Today, it is biggest Open University in the world & serving about 1.5 million students in India and 35 countries abroad through 11 Schools of Studies and a big network of 58 regional centres, 7 sub- regional centres, 1400 study centres, and 41 overseas centres.

UGC banned MPhil and PhD programmes through the distance education

University Grant Commission banned the MPhil and PhD programmes offered through any distance education conducted through Open University, institution deemed to be a university and colleges/institutions. This decession has been taken for the national importance in terms of the quality education at higher level.
The value of MPhil programmes through distance education increased after the exemption in the condition by NET for the candidates looking for university teachers.

Eligibility criteria relaxed for Management Courses offered by IGNOU

Good news for the students seeking for admission in management courses through IGNOU, as per the new criteria any students passed with 50% marks in any discipline at graduation level, could apply for the course offered by IGNOU. A six months Bachelor preparatory programme (BPP) has been also offered for those students who were failed in 10th & 12th level for doing graduation. Last date for the admission in various study prodramme offered by IGNOU is 15th July.

Associate degree programmes to be launch by IGNOU

IGNOU the biggest open university of the world will offer two-year associate degree programmes for various streams at their registered college. According to Vice Chancellor of IGNOU Mr. V N Rajsekharan Pillai, academic council is scheduled to meet on 29 of June for approval initiative. Formal launch of the said programme would be in the month of July by HRD minister, Mr. Pillai added.

Under the associate degree programme the respective community colleges will conduct the course and IGNOU will conduct the examination and award certificates, said Latha Pillai, pro-vice chancellor, IGNOU. Registration of the community college with IGNOU is mandatory to offer the associate degree programme; IGNOU will not affiliate any community college.

"The IGNOU will not affiliate any of the community colleges. However, it will be mandatory for community colleges to register with the IGNOU if they want to offer the associate degree programmes," she said. At present, 100 community colleges in the country had registered with the IGNOU for the programme. In Tamil Nadu, the Madurai Community College is the first among the 115 community colleges to register with the IGNOU.

“Kerla” the highest literate state in compression to other state of India situated in the south west corner of India. Kochi is the place where Regional Center of Indira Gandhi National Open University ‘IGNOU’ is situated for the people of the state Kerla and the Union Territory of Lakshadeep.

This center came into existence on 17th November 1988. At the time of existence it was located in the Cochin University of Science and Technology’s campus. IGNOU to start courses in tribal Studies

IGNOU has signed an MOU with Bhasha Research and Publication Centre (BRPC). The aim of this MOU is to create and institute courses in tribal studies, develop and run research programmes in the subject.

The MOU is expected to open doors to ensuring legal protection for tribal knowledge in India. Bhasha Research and Publication Centre (BRPC) is an academic group working in India.

The courses in tribal studies offered by BRPC will be part of IGNOU School of Interdisciplinary and Trans-disciplinary studies.

IGNOU admission last date, IGNOU form submission date

Indira Gandhi National Open University popularly known as IGNOU) as extended the last date for submission of duly filled-in applications for admission to various academic programmes to July 15 for this academic session.

The Common Prospectus of IGNOU contains details about admission to 129 courses at various levels. The IGNOU prospectuses of all other programmes are issued by the respective schools of studies.

The official sources said that there are 40 programmes/courses for PhDs and MPhils and the extension of the last date for admission is for 129 programmes only and not all. For all other programmes, the last date of submission of forms will remain on June 30, 2009.

Last Date for Common Prospectus Last Date for Common Programmes(129) is July 31, 2009 with late fee of Rs 200/ per programme.

IGNOU Bangalore Regional Centre was established in the year 1987. It was formally inaugurated on 1st February 1989. IGNOU Bangalore regional centre was housed in the Directorate of Collegiate Education (Govt. of Karnataka) premises till September 1996.

Later, the Bangalore regional center office of IGNOU moved to a spacious rented building at Jayanagar from September 1996. IGNOU Bangalore center has received around 3 acres of land from Karnataka Government near Electronic City to build new campus.
