Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU), Tamilnadu

Madurai Kamaraj University initially kwon as Madurai University came into existence in 1966 by government of Tamilnadu. MKU is member of Indian universities & funded by University Grant Commission. MKU has a great journey in terms of quality education with grade A by NAAC.

In the year of 1971 the Directorate of Distance Education of Madurai Kamaraj University was established to promote education through distance learning/education. Now the endless journey of quality education of the university is exploring day by day. Recently University was accorded the status of "University with Potential for Excellence" - A status conferred by University Grants Commission so far on 9 such Universities in the Country.

MKU is spreading education not only in India, but out side the country also; there are 38 Spot Admission Centers and 87 Study Centers outside Tamilnadu across the country and 12 Study Centers outside the country. Commencement of courses from its existence is mentioned below:


1971 - DDE came into existence
1971 - Offered Under Graduate Courses in Humanities, Pre-University, B.Com.
1976 - Introduced P.G. courses
1977 - Introduced Open University System (OUS)
1979 - Started Professional courses like B.Ed.
1988 - Introduced Certificate Courses in Journalism & Mass Communication & Library Sciences
1990-91 - Extended its vista by introducing Job Oriented Courses and Innovative courses like Master of Labour Management & M.A. in Journalism & Mass Communication.
1991-92 - Introduced Liberalised Scheme at the UG & PG Courses under OUS.
1993-94 - MBA, MCA, M.Phil. & PG courses in Tourism Management and Bank Management.
