PTET 2nd cut off list, PTET 2009 second cut off list

Jay Narayan Vyas University, Jodhpur has declared 2nd cut off list for Pre Teacher Education Test, PTET 2009 on 11th August 2009 (Tuesday) evening. The second cut off list is of 30,000 students including 15,000 selected students of 1st cut off who have lost the opportunity to take admission previously.

Selected students in the list has to deposit registration fee of Rs. 2000/- in any branch having the facility of core banking solution of Bank of Baroda or Central bank of India between 12tth August to 18th August 2009. IGNOU launches new B.Ed (special education) course, IGNOU new B Ed course prospectus

Indira Gandhi National Open University IGNOU has launched a new B Ed programme in association with Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) through distance learning/open education. Keeping in mind to spread education for people weak in the area of hearing impairment, mental retardation and visual impairment; IGNOU has started this course by the current academic session July 2009.

Students who are pursuing Bachelor's Degree from any University Grants Commission (UGC) recognized University and have a minimum of two years' experience in a special school environment in any disability area after graduation can enroll themselves into new B Ed (special education) programme & complete this course/programme in a of two years.

The students having one of these criteria would be proffered who would have one of the following criteria - be a parent of a child with disability, be a person with disability, posses an RCI-recognized diploma in special education, have undergone bridge course of RCI or have completed RCI recognized foundation course.

Indira Gandhi National Open University offers 2 years Master degree programme in commerce ‘M.Com’ with specialisation in International Business Operations for those students who have graduate in any discipline or equivalence from any recognized university. Student can complete their course in minimum 2 years & maximum 5 years. The main purpose of the programme is to expertise students in operating International Business Operation.

IGNOU launches certificate course in Urdu

Good news for students/people willing to learn Urdu, because Indira Gandhi National Open University IGNOU has announced to start certificate course in Urdu language.

Urdu has a special place in the Mughal history of the country; the sweetness of the language attracts every one. Initially the course will provide to learn Urdu in better manner in terms of read, write, speak & understand it correctly.

The programme is on offer from July 2009. According to the official sources diploma/degree & M. Phil/Ph.D. courses in Urdu will be on offer in 2010 and 2011 respectively. The course will not only cater to Urdu lovers but also to people who are researching on medieval India and the freedom struggle.

IGNOU offers Specialisation Programme through School of Management Studies SOMS in Functional areas. The PGSDM programme has 4 streams of deferent functional areas. The duration of programme is of one year for a particular stream. To qualify for a particular specialisation P.G. diploma a student is required to complete five courses in all from that particular stream. IGNOU B Com syllabus, IGNOU B Com syllabus course

Indira Gandhi National Open University offers 3 years degree programme in commerce called Bachelor of Commerce B. Com. Students who have qualified +2 or its equivalent can apply for enrollment in the programme. IGNOU provides full convenience to the students in terms of completion of course as per their choice, the duration of course is min for 3 years & max for 8 years.

Keeping in mind for overall development of the students B. Com course is designed as a wide range of other discipline. The structure of the programme is divided into three components: Foundational courses, Elective Courses & Application-Oriented Courses.
B. Com course structure: Indira Gandhi National Open University follows credit system for the evaluation purpose. 30 hours study comprises as a single credit. There are 96 credits requires to successfully qualify the course over a period of 3 years to 8 years depending on students convenience. In a year students are allowed to earn maximum 32 credits. The details of all three components for B.Com. Programme are as under:

1. Foundational courses 24 credits 24 credits
2. Elective Courses 64 credits Or 56 credits
3. Application-Oriented Courses 8 credits 16 credits

B.Com. Foundation Courses: Foundation courses are compulsory for all students. One has to earn 24 credits of foundation courses.

IGNOU launches certificate course in diabetes care

Indira Gandhi National Open University launched a certificate progremmme in 'Diabetes Care for Community Workers' to produce skilled people to take care of patients of diabetes. This is 1st initiative taken by any university in India for common man to manage diabetes in better way.

According to IGNOU officials the programme will begin by this month. The course/programme is developed keeping in mind to built a community level workforce to work in diabetic clinics and health centers.

IGNOU and Kerala University to sign MoU, launches certificate course in Bioinformatics

Indira Gandhi National Open University “IGNOU” the most popular open university in India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kerala University to launch a certificate programme in Bioinformatics through Open and Distance Learning.

Initially this programme will be launched in selected cities across the country. Kerala University has the capacity for the entire state & rest parts of the country & abroad will cater by IGNOU. This is a Joint Distance Education Programme for graduates in Computing, Life Sciences and allied areas of studies. The programme is designed to lead from certificate-level to Post Graduate Degree: M.Sc. Bioinformatics.

IGNOU with U21Global Singapore launches JOINT EXECUTIVE MBA Programme

Indira Gandhi National Open University with Singapore based U21Global launched a Joint Postgraduate program in IT Management for July 2009 session. The duration of the programme is of 18 months will commenced by 7th Sep’09. IGNOU to educate prisoners, opens special study centre at Ajmer central jail

In continuation to provide higher education to prisoners IGNOU has started its 2nd special study center in Rajasthan at Ajmer central jail. The 1st higher education center in the Rajasthan was opened at Jaipur.

Initially Bachelor degree programmes & certificate courses will be start at these centers. Out of these courses, “BPP” a course for those who are of 18 years old and could not pass class 12th or equivalent exam will be run by these study centers.

All the activity like books, counseling & exams to providing education would be done by IGNOU in jail premises. According to the regional director, IGNOU will start these centers in each jail in the state.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University the largest open university in the world in distance education is ready to set its own centers in foreign countries. IGNOU has offered courses in the abroad with collaboration with local institutes in various countries. The Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi has set up the process of accreditation by National Accreditation Committee for Open and Distance Learning NACODL as conventional universities get accreditation by NAAC. DEC works for the promotion & coordination with open university and distance education system.

Assessments done by NACODL will published on DEC’s website, it will help students & their parents to understand & valuate the quality of education of various institutions working in this area (distance learning). IGNOU signed MOU with HCL to promote for e-learning

The Indira Gandhi National Open University and HCL Infosystem Ltd (government's Department of Information and Technology) signed a Memorandum of Undertaking MOU to provide education though e-learning in the east India & its rural area.

The e-learning programmes that will be linked to the centers include IGNOU's certificate programmes in agriculture, rural development, farming practices, community radio as well as organic farming.

Beware of fake degrees, UGC warns deemed universities

Students has to beware of fake degrees offered by deemed universities through unapproved programmes/courses. Taking it as a very serious issue University Grants Commission “UGC” has warned such universities. UGC sought a legal undertaking from vice chancellors of deemed universities to the effect that their institutions are not violating norms.

Addressing to the VC(s) of 127 deemed universities through letter, KP Singh joint secretary UGC said that deemed universities are not allowed to affiliate colleges/institutions without & it will be treated as violence of UGC guidelines. In addition to that UGC the apex regulatory body for higher education in India has said that any course under distance mode without the specific prior approval of a joint committee of the UGC, All India Council for Technical Education and the Distance Education Council, would not be conducted or commenced by deemed universities.

IGNOU gets Rs.500 million in the Union Budget 2009-10

Indira Gandhi National Open University is the largest open university in the world, IGNOU was established in the year 1985 to spread distance education in India. In continuation to the same, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee has given Rs. 500 million to IGNOU for its world class services in the sector of distance education.

IGNOU will use this fund to implementation of various approved schemes in IGNOU itself. Indira Gandhi National Open University started 100 community colleges to bring a "learning revolution" among under-privileged students across the country.

The objective of setting up these regional centers to communicate, attend enquiries from old/new/prospective students & common man about the distance education & its nature of working, courses/programmes & its value in life to the people of Rajasthan.

UGC in favor of uniform grading pattern, introduces India credit transfer system

University Grants Commission has started the process of evolving an Indian equivalence assessment and credit transfer system. The objective of this evaluation system to have a common method of assessment of grades among the Universities in the country & abroad; which would ensure smooth transferring system to the students at higher education level.

A committee of four member lead by director of the University of Pune, has been deputed by UGC to work upon & finalise expected model over the next six months. The team members of the committee are: noted academicians and scientists H C Pradhan of the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Mumbai, Vijayshri of the Indira Gandhi National Open University's school of sciences, and N Subhash of the Centre for Earth Sciences Studies, Trivandrum. H K Chauhan will be the member secretary.

IGNOU Ahmedabad came into existence in the year 1988 to spread education through distance learning to the students & un-reached people like: professionals, house wives, poor reside of remote area in jurisdiction of Gujarat state. In addition to increase literacy rate in the state, Government of Gujarat has provided land to IGNOU for establishing the Ahmedabad regional center.

Ahmedabad regional center has 60 study centers across the state, including study centers in Central Jail, Blind People Association, Ahmedabad and Tribal Academy, Tejgadh, Baroda. Nagpur the second capital of Maharashtra state has got the opportunity to operate 2nd regionall center of the Indira Gandhi National Open University. IGNOU the world known distance education provider has opened its second regional center at Nagpur to provide a platform to working professionals, housewives and others who could not pursue full time education along with students. IGNOU selects institutions to run community college

IGNOU has identified 100 institutions to run community college across the country. The purpose of these community colleges has to educate underprivileged students using the unutilized capacities & provide skill-based livelihood enhancing education and eligibility for employment to the urban poor, rural poor, tribal poor and women.

The launching of this scheme would be on Saturday (4th July’09) by Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal to commence the courses from the coming academic session. The scheme was recommended by the University Grant Commission (UGC) for utilizing the idle assets of colleges and institutions after their normal work. The Scheme has also been approved by the Planning Commission and National Knowledge Commission.

According to the official information IGNOU will provide accreditation to the colleges & ensure quality monitoring and evaluation, certification and course development.

Regional center Lucknow came into existence on 1st December, 1986 with one study centre. Now Lucknow regional centre is the largest regional center of IGNOU in India. Cabinet approves International University in India

Union cabinet approved money for setting up South Asian University in Delhi, 79% money of the total cost of establishing the university has been approved by the Union cabinet. The University was proposed by the Prime Minister during the SAARC Summit 2005 in Dhaka.

The process of acquiring the land about 100 acres near IGNOU campus, South Delhi has been started by foreign ministry. The institution will impart advanced knowledge and provide facilities for research. It will be a non-state and non-profit self-governing institution, the jurisdiction of which will extend all over India and to campuses and centers established in the SAARC region.

IGNOU to offer Ph D & Master degree in journalism

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will start a series of full-time and short-term courses in journalism and mass communication. It is in respect of a great demand of the journalism sector.

IGNOU will offer Master's in electronic media production and management, Master's in journalism and mass communication & PhD in journalism and mass communication this academic year. To offer these courses, School of Journalism and New Media Studies (SOJNMS) has been established, mode of education would be face-to-face.

According to Shambhu Nath Singh, director, SOJNMS, "Since there is no body to regulate standards of education in mass communication and journalism, the quality of graduates from these private institutes is extremely poor. Journalism now touches every aspect of our lives like health, society, environment, etc. So, we need able and properly trained individuals in this field." Ranchi as a Regional Center came into existence after the division of Bihar state into Bihar & Jharakhand in the month of March 2000. Indira Gandhi National Open University has established Ranchi regional center to provide open education/distance learning programmes to the people of Jharakhand state. The Regional Center has expanded its study centers across all district of the Jharkhand state. There are 52 study centers presently working in supervision of the Ranchi center & providing education to the students.

There are three Satellite Interactive Terminals (SITs) of EduSat have been installed & working properly.
The centers where these Satellite Interactive Terminals (SITs) of EduSat are Ranchi regional center & rest two are at Jamshedpur Study Centre and Hazaribagh Study Centre.
