Deharadun the capital of Uttarakhand state was identified for the establishment of the regional center of Indira Gandhi National Open University. Regional Center Deharadun came into existence in the month of March 0f 1999. Initially Dehradun center was catering the educational need of the students/people of North-western Uttar-Pradesh. Presently Dehradun regional center is providing educational facility to the entire state of Uttarakhand along with 3 districts of north western UP; these are Saharanpur, Muzzafarnagar and Bijnore.

Dehradun regional center of IGNOU was located at Ajabpur Kalan at Dehradun, now it has been shifted to Tapovan, Raipur Road, Dehradun, heart of the city.There is a big network of 47 study centers working in the jurisdiction of Dehradun regional center.
